The festival of traditional and modern Japanese culture is aimed at strengthening and developing of artistic cooperation between Japan and Russia. That is why the emblem of the festival is a branch of sakura, which symbolizes renewal. The program includes exhibitions, concerts, lectures, culinary and Japanese language master classes, school Olympiads on Oriental studies, sports competitions, and other activities.

Russian and foreign creative groups and soloists aged from 6 to 18 take part in competitive auditions. The competition is held in the nominations "Pop vocal" (solo and ensemble singing) and "Instruments of Pop Orchestra" (soloists, ensembles and orchestras).

This year's competition is dedicated to the 220th anniversary of Alexander Pushkin, the 210th anniversary of Nikolai Gogol; The 150th anniversary of Zinaida Hippius and the 130th anniversary of Anna Akhmatova. Contestants must submit text works in any genre on the theme of “Stylization” or “Time Travel”.

This exhibition is devoted to the 160th anniversary of Alexander Popov, the inventor of radio. It tells of the difficult fate of Alexander Stepanovich Popov, a Russian scientist who made one of the most important discoveries in the history of mankind, and passed away in the prime of life; about the difficulties faced by scientists involved in the implementation of radio communications, and of how radio changed the world and became the basis of many modern technologies. The exhibition presents the original devices used by A.Popov; the first radio receiver that he invented, and other unique exhibits, including photographs, documents, and memorial items.

"RIMSKY-KORSAKOV 175" Festival (17.03-12.04.2019)

By the 175th anniversary of the birth of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, the Mariinsky Theater has prepared a big festival marathon to be held in St. Petersburg and in the branches of the theater in Vladivostok and in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. The program includes all the composer's operas, as repertoire performances - “Snow Maiden”, “Sadko”, “Tsar's Bride”, “Golden Cockerel” and rarely performed - “Mlada” "Pan Voyevoda", "Servilia". A special event of the festival will be the premiere of one-act operas - “Mozart and Salieri”, “Kashchei the Immortal” directed by Vyacheslav Starodubtsev. The romances anthology of the Russian composer-classic will be presented by soloists of the Young Opera Singers Academy, prize-winners of International Rimsky-Korsakov Competition and students of the St. Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory. The festival guests will also see the legendary ballet of the Dyagilev enterprise “Schegherazade“ in the choreography by Mikhail Fokin and décor by Lev Bakst.

"CRIMEA IN THE WORKS BY A. KUINDZHI" (22.03-29.04.2019)

The Russian Museum has a number of works by Kuindzhi painted in Crimea. They were all received as donations from the Kuindzhi Society. In them, we can trace the artist’s painterly explorations and discoveries while he investigated relationships between colours and contrast, how to depict the changes in the atmosphere that occur throughout the day, fog, and sunsets. The exhibition, held in the Garden Vestibule of the Mikhailovsky Palace, contains selected canvases by Kuindzhi dedicated to nature in Crimea. In them, as in his artistic legacy as a whole, the artist was able to convey the diversity of beauty and the eternal in nature, as seen by his rapturous eyes.
