7th International Oriental Dance Festival ETHNO DANCE (22–26.08.2018)

Every year at the end of August in St. Petersburg there is a unique event for the city of white nights - the International Festival of Oriental Dance "Ethno Dance". Having started in 2012, the festival has become one of the biggest events in Russia devoted to Eastern culture.

Baltic Yacht Week from 13 to 19 August

From 13 to 19 August St. Petersburg for the second time will host the Baltic Yachting Week, which is one of the biggest events in the field of sailing sport in Russia. This time the event is timed to the 300th Anniversary of the world's first yacht club "Nevsky Yacht Club", which was established by Peter the Great in Saint Petersburg in 1718.

The event is being held as a part of the Saint Petersburg Maritime Assembly in pursuance of St. Petersburg Governor Poltavchenko assignment.

Organizers: St. Petersburg Committee for tourism development and St. Petersburg Sailing Union.

This year Baltic Yacht Week brings together the most interesting events of the yachting theme, which will be held in the heart of the city – near the walls of Peter and Paul fortress, as well as in other areas of Saint Petersburg every day.

The program includes: sailing regatta featuring world-class athletes, performances and master classes, exhibitions, open days at the yacht clubs and museums, business conferences and presentations. In addition, city residents will have a unique opportunity to climb aboard some large yachts, get to know their device and the crew: in the format of an open ladder in the waters of the Neva on the Hare Island will be moored two sailboats:  a 36 meters long "Nadezhda" (Hope) and "Lady L" that is 23 meters long. Like last year, on Saturday, after sunset, a water and light show "Ballet of Sails" will take place in the water area between Dvortsovy, Birzhevoy and Troitsky bridges, which will end with a festive fireworks show.

III Saint Petersburg River Carnival

On 12 August, 2018 in Saint Petersburg in the framework of Marine Assembly will be held the 3rd Saint Petersburg River Carnival. For the third time city hosts the celebration, during which the magnificently decorated boats and river buses are floating along the rivers and canals in the city center.

The main goal of this festive event is increasing of the tourist attractiveness of Saint Petersburg due to revival of the carnival traditions in the Venice of the North. It is in our city the Russian carnival spirit has found its most vivid expression. Russian carnivals and masquerades since the time of Peter the Great were worthy of competition to the European, enriching them with new customs. Saint Petersburg is a city on the water, which is famous for its opportunities in organizing holidays connected with the water element.

The chosen form of the carnival has not only symbolic but also practical significance. It will allow to reach the maximum number of spectators, significantly expand the territory of the festival, the basis of which will again be the water space of rivers and canals of the Admiraleisky and Central districts of the city. The main venue of the event will be the Moika river area between the Mikhailovsky Garden and the Marsovo Pole (Field of Mars).

Opening ceremony of the carnival will take place on 12 August, 2018 at 13:00. The programme of  ships carnival procession includes the participation of teams of 18 Saint Petersburg district administrations. Winners will be determined by a competent jury, consisting of the leading figures of culture, sport and tourism in Saint Petersburg.

Viewers will watch the show from Moika River embankment. For their convenience, a there will be a live broadcast of the carnival procession. In addition, on the embankment will be provided a lot of creative activities (an exhibition with information about river cruises starting in St. Petersburg, a concert program with featuring leading theatrical and entertainment ensembles of the city and other themed events).

III Saint Petersburg River Carnival

LIGHT NIGHTS in Gatchina (10-11.08.2018) - St. Petersburg International festival of light art

St. Petersburg International Festival of Light Art "Light nights" in Gatchina will take place on the 10th and 11th of August 2018.

The program of the festival "Light nights" in Gatchina Park features 36 author light art objects created by masters from Russia, Belarus, Germany, Italy and Finland. The festival is attended by designers, theater lightening and stage designers, architects.

The final program of the International competition of Light installations will gather 26 creative teams. All artists will create their projects in the Gatchina Park during the first decade of August. A prestigious jury will decide a winner of the competition.

The international program of the festival will present a St. Petersburg version of the project "Lantern Park" shown during the festival LUX HELSINKI. It is a result of many workshops where residents of St. Petersburg and Gatchina cities created almost 100 author's lamps.

The festival program includes an interactive project of the lighting designer Stas Svistunovich (the winner of the Prizes "Proryv" and "Golden Mask" of 2018). His project "The Other Voices" was designed in the framework of the co-educational program of the Institut Francais in Russia, the New Media Laboratory of the New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theatre, the School of the Stage Arts Studio "Show Consulting" and the Higher School of Light Design of the University IFMO.

Following the author's intent, guests of the festival embracing the trunks of oaks and larch trees in Gatchina Park may be able to better understand the souls of trees: not only to hear, but also to see their internal, the other voices.
Alena Kogan and Vadim Gololobov, the artists worked in the most delirious performances of the companies AHE, DEREVO, Teatro di Kapua, Slava Polunin's theatre projects, participants of international exhibitions and festivals will also present their creativity during the "Lightnights" in Gatchina. Together with Sergey Karlov, the engineer for geometrical optics and mirror paradoxes, they will transform the Admiralty space. Their co-project resulted in a light performative installation "Removing the cultural layer" which is a multi-hour action in the format of reverse engineering trying to find a genius loci (lat. protective spirit of a place) of the ancient park.

The facade of the Venus Pavilion will be a canvas used by Alla Maslovskaya and Marina Sosnina from the "The Animated Light Illustrations Theater" to present a multimedia musical and light show "The Mermaid". This show is based on the old illustrations of the Russian painter, Konstantin Isenberg.

The official partner of the festival, the company IntiLED provides to our festival not only the equipment, but also traditionally performs with creative projects.

The Jordanian facade of the Gatchina Palace will become a screen for the set of creative works selected for the final in the video-mapping competition. As an encore requested by the audience there will be presented also the interactive performance "Dialogues with the Emperor" directed by Mikhail Patlasov.

At midnight on 11th August guests will see the main event of the festival - a multimedia light and firework show "On the Horizon Line". The director is Anton Okoneshnikov, the creator of a number of innovative productions on the Aleksandrinsky Theatre stage. The 3D-mapping is prepared by the studio Solaris FX, the light plot is made by the light artists of the Smart Light group. The show is full of metamorphosis and unexpected turns. All parts of it: water and fire, live vocals and high-altitude fireworks, surrealistic canvases and historical context are woven into a paradoxical story.

This year the festival offers to use a handy website LIGHTNIGHTSFEST.RU with full information about the program and infrastructure of the festival and interactive map. The website has an online voting system, so each guest may decide who will take a special prize of the festival.

The festival together with launches an INSTAGRAM contest. An author of the best photo with the #LIGHTGATCHINA hashtag will gain a special prize.

Soaring Umbrellas Alley opens on 4 August

Solyanoy pereulok (Salt lane), 13 will become a venue for a street installation. It will be possible to enjoy the bright umbrellas floating in the sky until 2 September.

On weekdays, the Alley will become a place for various lectures, concerts, poetry readings. Here you may not only take the brightest pictures, but also swing a seesaw, taste some street food and buy some unusual souvenirs at the themed market.

Every weekend at the Alley will be organized rich festival programmes with dozens of venues, where the guest of all ages will be allowed to take part in workshops, photo sessions, creating of art objects, bookcrossing, flash mobs etc.

St. Petersburg hosts Sailing Champions League

From 3 to 6 August the best yachtsmen in Europe will compete in the heart of Saint Petersburg.

24 yacht clubs from 16 European countries will come to St. Petersburg for participation in the qualifying round of the European Sailing Champions League. Russia's Northern Capital has been hosting these competitions for the third consecutive year. Sailing races, which anyone can watch, will be held on the Neva river near the Peter and Paul Fortress from 3 to 6 August. The organizer of this round of European Sailing Champions League is the Yacht Club of Saint Petersburg.

In the qualifying round of the European Sailing Champions League in St. Petersburg will compete teams that won prizes in the national sailing leagues of their countries. In the waters of Neva the strongest yacht clubs will be competing for a place in the international finals of the League, which will be held in Switzerland in late summer. 

On the beach of the Peter and Paul Fortress will be organized a racing village, venues for watching competitions and activity for visitors: a rope cube, beach volleyball, windsurfing training on the shore simulator, sailing simulators for adults and children.

St. Petersburg Harley® Days 2018

From 2 to 5 August the Northern Capital for the 7th time hosts St.Petersburg Harley® Days – a bright international festival.

The festival is traditionally held with the informational support of St. Petersburg Commitee for Tourism Development. Venue of the event is Ostrovsky Square in the heart of Nevsky prospekt.

The festival program includes over 20 activities including: Stunt Riding Show at the motorcycle racing track, the Custom Bike Show – original custom bike area, Tattoo Competition, Motorcycle Helmets Contest, Speed Contest,  ZUBRINOV Power Show, Children's Zone and much more.

Among the novelties of this year there will be organized an International culinary and music festival among Chapter HOG, Harley Owners Group that is the world's largest club – it has 1.5 million members.

Business conference for owners of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, which was held during the past 3 years in the Tsarskoye (Royal) lobby of the Alexandrinsky Theater, this year will be held in the format of the Business Club.

During all festive days the right mood will be created with the help of the world hits performed by music bands from different countries. Everyone is welcomed to visit a trade fair to purchase original souvenirs and goods from official dealers of Harley-Davidson, and taste the cuisine of different countries at the Restaurant area.

The culmination of St.Petersburg Harley® Days traditionally will become the solemn Moto Parade, which starts from the Palace Square (Dvortsovaya Ploschad'), being recognized as one of the best city parades in Europe. The parade formation will take place on 4 August at 11.00, and the parade itself starts at 13.00.

In 2018, for the first time in 7 years, the Parade route will be changed in order to show our numerous guests from other countries and cities of Russia, not only historical St.Petersburg, but the modern city as well.

The Parade route will pass along the Western High Speed Diameter, to show foreign guests unique infrastructure complex of WHSD, underlining the strength of our country, as well as new architectural landmarks: the Saint Petersburg Stadium, the Lakhta Center tower and  the “Passenger Port of Saint Petersburg "Marine Façade”.

For motorists it will be organized a parking in Gostiny Dvor, entrance to Sadovaya street.
