Moscow Spring A Cappella Contest received 114 applications from 21 countries (01-12.05.2019)

Moscow will host Moscow Spring A Cappella Festival and Contest from 1 to 12 May.
114 performers and bands from all over the world have already applied for the contest. 71 applications came from Russian regions and 43 – from 20 foreign states, including Germany, the United Kingdom, Paraguay, Austria, Puerto Rico, the United States, Spain, China, Namibia, South Africa, Singapore, South Korea and the Maldives. The application period has been extended until 10 May.
The festival-goers will enjoy the contestant's performances as well as music workshops, theatrical performances, themed objets d'art and unique merchandise.
Last year, Moscow Spring A Cappella Contest received 250 applications and approved 184 of them. Representatives from 16 countries and 40 Russian regions performed at 40 venues around the city.

Exhibitions and cinema: free admission to the Victory Museum on 9 May

On 9 May, the Museum’s cinema hall will show films about the Great Patriotic War which have not been released to the public yet.
The Victory Museum on Poklonnaya Gora  has prepared a special program for its free day on 9 May. Visitors will get their tickets at the box office, with no need to show their passports or other identity documents. On 9 May, the museum will be open 10:00 a.m. to 08:30 p.m.
Specially for 9 May, the museum will open a new exhibition as part of the project “War: Day by Day” telling the history of one of the most significant medals of the Great Patriotic War awarded to over 14 million soldiers and officers, the medal "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945". The exposition presents newspaper articles made during the Great Patriotic War, photos of awards, personal belongings of the Red Army soldiers who were awarded this medal, and the medals themselves.
The museum will host free war poem and song concerts and theatrical performances.
In addition, on 9 May, the museum will run the traditional campaign “Dove of Peace Flying with Victory Ribbon” with a sculptural composition of a dove spreading its wings above the globe installed at the entrance. All museum visitors can tie a St. George’s ribbon to this symbol of peace as a tribute to the memory of the Great Patriotic War victims.

Nikolin Day festivities to be held in Moscow (17-19.05.2019)

Manezhnaya Square is to transform into a sea pier, and Tverskaya Square is to have Sail of Hope installed.
From 17 to 19 May, Moscow will for the first time host the Nikolin Day, a festival of arts, named after St. Nicholas and initiated by charitable foundations. Nine venues are to open in Moscow centre and Kolomenskoye Museum Reserve. They will be open on 17 May 11:00 am till 09:00 pm, on 18 May and 19 May 10:00 am till 08:00 pm.
Guests will enjoy bright theatrical plays, street performances, shows of popular Russian and foreign artists - Mgzavrebi, OQJAV, Emir Kusturica & The No Smoking Orchestra, Uma2rman, Elka and others. The best food producers of the Far East, Yakutia, Murmansk, Astrakhan and the Black Sea coast will bring their fish and seafood to the festival.

Spring Bike Festival (19.05.2019)

A cycling race will precede the festival followed by a ride along Sadovoye Koltso anyone may participate in.
Spring Bike Festival will take place in Moscow on 19 May to bring together two-wheeler fans of all ages. Cyclists will ride along Sadovoye Koltso in a long column. Guests will participate in various competitions.

Fish Week festival events (24.05-02.06.2019)

Fish Week, a gourmet festival, will be held 24 May till 2 June, as Head of the Department of Trade and Services Alexei Nemeryuk reported.  It will have seven venues: Revolyutsii Square, Manezhnaya Square, passage between them, Klimentovsky Pereulok and Tverskoi Boulevard (three venues). The venues will be open 11:00 am till 09:00 pm on weekdays and 10:00 am till 10:00 pm on weekends.

The festival will offer 100 species of fish and seafood brought by 50 enterprises from all over Russia, from the Black Sea coast to the Far East. Thirty-seven best Moscow restaurants will cook delicious and original seafoods.

Restaurant menu will be more varied than last year. French Bouillabaisse soup, oysters and mussels, crab burgers, Far Eastern smelt, Galician-style octopus, carrot and ginger soup with shrimp and much more.

Moscow metro turns 84: celebration events

On 15 May, the Moscow metro celebrated its 84th anniversary with free tours. Passengers heard the stories about creation and construction of stations, metro decor and artistic design, its legends and symbols.

The Career Guidance Centre opened a metro uniform exhibition to show what metro workers looked like at different times. The display includes hats, insignia, accessories and much more. For the first time, restored portraits of the Moscow Metro workers honoured with state awards are displayed. This year, the pictures turn 50. The exhibition will run for a month.

The train parade will take place on 18 May at 09:45 am with Yozh-3, 81-717/714 (Numbered Train), 81-720.1/721.1 Yauza, 81-740/741 Rusich, 81-760/761 Oka, 81-765/766/767 Moskva and the Sokolniki vintage train participating.

Everyone will have an opportunity to practise in driving a Numbered Train using a special simulator. In addition, a series of tours to the Delovoi Tsentr, a temporarily closed metro station, will launch. This is a joint project of the Moscow metro and the Museum of Moscow. The participants will be allowed to get into the cabin of the station duty officer, watch train movement control online, go to a special bridge overlooking metro tunnel infrastructure and even visit the escalator's engine room.

Moscow metro turns 84: celebration events
