Technology for everyone: Free entrance to Geek Picnic 2018

This year, the festival’s programme includes discussions on the future of humankind, the rights of cyborgs and the colonisation of Mars.

Entrance to the Geek Picnic festival of science, culture and technology, which will be held in the Kolomenskoye Estate Museum on 11 and 12 August, will be free this year.

The main theme of this year’s festival is Human Evolution. The agenda includes discussions on the future of humankind, technological utopia and anti-utopia, the civil rights of cyborgs, cities of the future, digital immortality, as well as the colonisation of Mars and the Moon. The programme will be divided into several themes, such as space exploration, biotechnology, artificial intelligence and technoethics, blockchain and cryptocurrencies, Science Art and other subjects as well.

The organisers expect over 30,000 visitors, who will be able to attend lectures by prominent scientists, futurologists and science popularisers, such as Michael Shermer, an American science writer, historian of science and the founder of The Skeptics Society; James Barrat, the author of the nonfiction book Our Final Invention: Artificial Intelligence and the End of the Human Era, and Seth Stephens-Davidowitz, an op-ed writer for The New York Times and the author of the non-fiction book Everybody Lies: Big Data, New Data, and What the Internet Can Tell Us About Who We Really Are.
