Pancakes from Blacksmiths: Moscow Maslenitsa festival to offer workshops by craftspeople

Blacksmiths from St Petersburg, the Voronezh, Kaliningrad, Kostroma and Ryazan regions, and Dagestan and Tatarstan will conduct workshops in how to forge metal pancakes as part of the Moscow Maslenitsa festival.

The Moscow Maslenitsa festival will offer workshops by craftspeople from seven regions of Russia. The Pancakes from Blacksmiths project will involve specialists from St Petersburg, the Voronezh, Kaliningrad, Kostroma and Ryazan regions, and the republics of Dagestan and Tatarstan who will conduct workshops in how to forge metal pancakes.

Smithies will open at four of the 25 venues of the Moscow Maslenitsa festival, namely Manezhnaya Square, Revolyutsii Square, Tverskoi Boulevard and Profsoyuznaya Street. There visitors will be able to forge a metal pancake and to inlay a picture or one’s initials in it.

“Two blacksmiths will be working at each venue. Those who decide to try their hand in smithcraft will be given gloves, an apron and safety glasses. Forging a gift pancake won’t be easy, but it will be very interesting! We will help inlay a name, initials or something else in the metal,” said Igor Chizhov, a project participant.

Smithies will be open throughout the festival, from 9 to 18 February.
