Winter tour boat navigation on the Moskva River will start on 9 November. The first boat will set off from the Ukraina Hotel pier on Taras Shevchenko Embankment at 11 am. The boats used for winter navigation have reinforced hulls and ice breaking capability. The boats can ease through thin ice and break ice up to 20 centimetres thick. In thicker ice, the boats will be accompanied by more powerful icebreakers or will navigate through areas that have been cleared of ice in advance. Ten of these boats will navigate the Moskva River from November to April.

"Today, many sightseeing areas and excursions are available for tourists in Moscow. In addition, new unique venues, attractions, and sightseeing routes are being created. We expect that close to 21 million tourists will have visited Moscow by the end of 2017. Year-round navigation on the Moskva River is a great opportunity for city residents as well as tourists to enjoy Moscow’s attractions from a different angle at any time of the year," Nikolai Gulyaev, head of Moscow’s Department of Sport and Tourism said.

During the winter, the pleasure boats will set off from two piers – the Ukraina Hotel and Gorky Park. Passengers will enjoy views of Luzhniki stadium, Vorobyevy Gory Park, the Peter I monument, St. Basil's Cathedral, the skyscraper on Kotelnicheskaya Embankment, the Kremlin, and Zaryadye Park.

Last year, winter tour boat navigation started in late October. The summer navigation in 2017 was launched at Moscow’s North River Station on 24 April. In total, about 150 ships were used during the summer season, including the Mikhail Bulgakov cruise ship, which was launched at the start of summer navigation.
