Vintage tram cars and more than 250,000 visitors: the parade in honour of the Moscow tram's 120th anniversary

Vintage tram cars passed through central Moscow streets, finishing on Chistoprudny Boulevard with tram exhibition.

With more than 250,000 visitors, the Moscow tram anniversary parade became a record-breaking event.

The tram parade has been held in Moscow since 2014. This year, 19 vintage and present-day tram cars have participated. They passed from Shabolovka Street along Serpukhovsky and Danilovsky Val, Dubininskaya and Novokuznetskaya streets, Bolshoi Ustinsky Bridge, Yauzsky and Pokrovsky Boulevards to Chistoprudny Boulevard.

This year witnessed for the first time a pre-war S-series trailer car reconstructed at the Sokolnichesky car manufacturing and repair facility of Mosgortrans, and Tatra T3 passenger carriage and a street-washer. The guests also saw the legendary horse-drawn carriage of the 19th century, F cars built in 1908, and KM and KP cars of the 1930s. Besides, KTM-1 and KTP-1 vintage tram cars, renovated using the year 1948 models, were exhibited for viewing.

Actors wearing period pieces welcomed the parade participants. Guests took part in competitions and quizzes.

The first tram saw Moscow on 7 April (25 March in the Julian calendar) 1899. It was the time the first tram storage facility was established in Bashylovka. Trams started running between Butyrskaya Zastava and Petrovsky Park.
