VDNKh '80: What to expect from the Brass Band Festival

This year the Brass Band Festival at VDNKh will run from 7 June to 8 September. The visitors are invited to watch the Friday performances of musical bands from different countries. You can also listen to trumpeters, trombonists, clarinetists and other musicians on Russia Day, 12 June. On 7 and 8 September, there will be a two-day gala concert dedicated to City Day. The admission for all the festival events is free.

To celebrate the 80th VDNKh anniversary, the organisers of the festival invited the best orchestras that had previously participated in the project along with new musicians.

The schedule of the festival concerts in June is already available. All of them will take place on VDNKh Central Alley. On 7 June, the performance of the Russian Frontier Guard Band will open the festival. The musicians from this unique band can brilliantly play 40 military marches by heart. They not only perform at the State Kremlin Palace, but also go on world tours. The performance starts at 6 p.m. near Central Pavilion No. 1.

On Russia Day at 2 p.m., the State Russian Brass Band will perform at the arched gate of the main VDNKh entrance. They will play music from films such as 'Walking the Streets of Moscow', 'Say a Word for the Poor Hussar', 'Kidnapping, Caucasian Style', 'Ivan Vasilievich Changes Profession' and other famous melodies.

On 14 June, the festival-goers will spend their Friday with New Life Brass ensemble. It includes the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music graduates of various years. Along with the classics, the orchestra plays jazz and pop melodies. That is why the band are known as masters who can play anything. New Life Brass will perform at the Stone Flower fountain at 6 p.m.

Learn how to play a rock solo on the bagpipes

Moscow bagpipers will play their rock variations. The band will perform on 21 June at 6 p.m. near the Friendship of Peoples fountain. The orchestra's repertoire includes military marches, dance melodies as well as hits by Queen and AC/DC. They are famous for their experiments with the sound of traditional Scottish and Irish instruments.

The first foreign performers of the festival will be Panda's Cover Gang. The French ensemble will perform on VDNKh Central Alley on 28 June at 6 p.m. The band plays world hits from rock to electronic music. The French band will play Queen, Nirvana, Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Bruno Mars and other famous musicians' covers.

The annual International Brass Band Festival at VDNKh is a rare opportunity to see and hear the best brass bands of the country in the open air. The first musical concerts at VDNKh took place in 2015. A year ago, the project included 18 free concerts with 20 brass bands. Last time, 5,000 visitors attended the festival.
