The way the Northern River Station to look like after restoration

The building will be restored back to its historical look to become a modern transport complex.

The building of the Northern River Station will turn into a modern transport complex. It will house the station and the museum, as well as waiting rooms, a ticket office, Gifts & Souvenirs, an information desk, a buffet, a doctor's office and a nursing room. The surrounding area will be landscaped.

After the renovation, the station will be integrated into the unified transport system. River navigation between Moscow and the Moscow region and other regions is to be established, and tourism to be developed.

The Northern River Station was built in 1937. Until the 1990s, it was the Moscow river gate. In 2010, the station was closed due to its state of severe disrepair.

Currently, the Northern River Station, a cultural heritage site of regional importance, is in the middle of renovation. At the end of 2018, the Moscow State Expertise issued a positive opinion on the launch of renovation and the building's adjustment to a modern use.

The station's building will be restored back to its historical look in accordance with the archive materials. Experts will restore the tower clock of 18th-19th centuries, the gilding on its dials and bronze clock hands. They will also renovate marble wall cladding, a mural depicting nine Moscow Canal locks, murals and stained glass windows with state emblems of the Soviet republics, ceiling paintings and combined marble, mosaic and parquet floors. The station facades and lighting devices made in 1937 will be restored too, as well as the roof lanterns shaped as lilies of the valley.
