Tatyana Mavrina. A Journey to the Land of Color

Admiration for life expressed in colors has become the main content of the legacy of Tatyana Alekseyevna Mavrina (1900‒1996).
The artist lived a long life and maintained her creative capacity to the end of her days. Tatyana Mavrina was a student of Robert Rafailovich Falk, and she continued the tradition of her teacher’s highest levels of color studies. Whatever genre the artist would choose (landscape painting, nude, portraiture or illustration), all her works were filled with joy, humor and emotional uplift. Mavrina’s final exhibition of at the Tretyakov Gallery took place in 1996. It featured her works only from the Gallery’s collection. This exposition is the most complete retrospective that covers all periods of the artist’s work.

The project will demonstrate the versatility of Mavrina’s talent and the evolution of her creative journey. In addition to paintings and graphic works by Mavrina, it is planned to exhibit bottles and boards painted by her, as well as the 15th‒17th centuries icons from the artist’s private collection. The exhibition will include works from the collections of the Tretyakov Gallery, the State Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, the State Russian Museum, the State Dahl Museum of the History of Russian Literature, the State Pushkin Museum and the collection of A. G. Sheludchenko, the heir to T. A. Mavrina.
