People, architecture and events: VDNKh Museum visited by over 20,000 people already

More than 20,000 people have visited the VDNKh Museum opened on 1 August on the occasion of VDNKh's anniversary, as reported by Natalya Sergunina, Deputy Moscow Mayor.

The Museum dedicated to the history of VDNKh is located in the right wing of the main entrance arch. Here you will find reproductions from the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition's holdings and private collections, archival documents, photographs and architectural artefacts found during the restoration of historical pavilions.

Visitors themselves can manage their time to explore the exhibits. You can drop in for 15-20 minutes to get an initial idea of the main attractions, or spend a few hours learning more about VDNKh's history and architecture and the people who have contributed to its development.

Young visitors can do puzzles, guess a republic symbolised by this or that sculpture of the Friendship of Peoples fountain. Adults are welcome to study historical documents, clothes dating back to the 1930s and watch scenes from films shot on VDNKh's grounds.

Victory Parades and City of Wonders

The Museum's concept has been based on the opinion of more than 146,000 citizens, who submitted their proposals in the Active Citizen project.

The main exhibition is divided into five themed sections. Friendship of Peoples will tell about the contribution of representatives of different republics of the USSR to VDNKh’s formation and development, and about prominent foreign visitors. In Victory Parades, visitors will learn about post-war Russia, exhibits and entire pavilions devoted to achievements in agriculture, heavy industry and other fields. National University is about scientific breakthroughs. City of Wonders offers information about the architectural gems of the complex. One Day at the Exhibition will show VDNKh's attractions of various periods.

Pictures and drawings of pavilions, newspapers and magazines, maps dated to different periods have been collected in the media library, the first public database of digitised documents and photos. The hall featuring a conceptual map and model of VDNKh, with a 3D projection supplemented with audio, how the grounds and landscape of the complex have been changing from 1939 to the present day.

The Museum opened on 1 August 2019. Its opening was timed to VDNKh's 80th anniversary. Until 8 September, Muscovites and tourists could visit it for free. Starting 9 September, the full ticket is RUB 100.00. Discount ticket is RUB 50.00 The Museum is open daily except Monday.

Today, VDNKh is a favourite place of Muscovites and Moscow guests. Every year, around 30 million people visit Russia's chief exhibition. It houses 49 cultural heritage sites, including unique pavilions and fountains, as well as Handicrafts Park, Landscape Park, Museum City and others. Over 100 exhibitions and 350 congresses, city holidays, various festivals and concerts take place here every year.
