New Year And Christmas Markets and Fairs In St. Petersburg In 2018-2019

The season of Christmas and New Year fairs has started in St Petersburg. In this article you’ll find a list of St Petersburg main fairs, which will be open at the end of December 2018 and during New Year holidays, which will last until the 8th of January.

This is the official city fair organized usually in a big way by the city government: the New Year Fair location is complemented by concerts, competitions for children, processions, etc. All in all, they promise 158 pavilions, and if you spend a minute for each, you can hang for two and a half hours at least.

Here, as well as on Ostrovsky square, they promise a brisk trade in souvenirs, gifts, sweets, pastries, mittens, socks, figurines made of clay and metal, and jewelry. They will pour tea, coffee, mulled wine and show theatrical performances, sing and dance.

Christmas Charity Market In Annenkirche Church

It is the most atmospheric fair of the city. The setting is amazing! Burnt and dilapidated Lutheran Church, uncovered walls, twilight, the grand staircase rising directly to the glowing cross… a huge hall with a second tier on the sides… – everything is as in a movie.
Christmas Charity Market promises to give the true spirit of Christmas, and it is easy to believe in it: Christmas is an originally religious holiday, so where to spend it if not in a church… Architectural setting will be complemented by the performances of musicians and choristers who will perform Christmas songs. And acoustics in Annenkirche is amazing…

The fair on Yelagin island has significant differences from its competitors. Firstly, it is held for a month and a half with small breaks. Secondly, it takes longer to get to it than anywhere else. Thirdly, a lot of activities are held on Yelagin island during the holidays. At last, it is a beautiful place even without any entertainment, a lot of people come here just to walk.

Fair On New Holland Island

New Holland is a chicly built island in the center of St. Petersburg with renovated old buildings for economic and warehouse purposes. One of these buildings is called «The Bottle». It is round with an empty center inside, just like a bottle neck. The center is a courtyard, comfortably protected from the Northern winds by walls. There you’ll find an eight-meter Christmas tree and 14 stalls with gifts, souvenirs and confectionery.
The organizers will also arrange performances of street orchestras, show the Nutcracker ballet on a big screen and hold several fun events, including charity ones. In addition, the New Holland has a large ice rink.

«Intelligent Flea Market» In Lumiere Hall

Two gas holders (buildings in the form of a dome, previously used for gas storage), connected by a passage, is an ideal place for an unusual fair. Two hundred designers will come here, and not only from St. Petersburg. One gas tank will be given for jewelry and clothes, and the other – for food. There will also be master classes, a photo zone and other curious entertainments to justify the word «intelligent» in the name.

Winterfest In The Passenger Port

Last time the fair in the Sea Facade failed miserably: there were only a few buildings on the street, there was almost no entertainment inside, and the skating rink never froze because of the warm weather.
In 2019, we hope the organizers will breathe more life into their idea. At least, so it is promised though there is still no detailed program (as of December 15). If there is a skating rink, it will be not bad… Anyway, you have been warned.

The market in the Freedom location emanates sweetness: Belgian chocolate, crispy wafer rolls, «hot, spicy and a cheeky mulled wine» (this is a quote), fragrant and viscous hot chocolate and a delicate cocoa with marshmallows are good reasons to come, as well as jewelry, souvenirs, ceramics, clothing and more with a pleasant musical and coffee accompaniment. And pay attention to the work hours!
