Moscow parks to celebrate Russia Day

28 parks of the Moscow Department of Culture have prepared a festive programme. On 12 June, Gorky Park, Sokolniki, Zaryadye and other Moscow parks will hold festive events. Almost all recreation areas will have open-air concerts of jazz orchestras, folk bands and pop stars singing songs about Russia. Take part in various games, contests and quizzes, visit drawing lessons and learn to make a kite.

If you wish to learn more about Russian geography, visit the Hermitage Garden. You will find out a lot about the largest lakes and rivers, as well as seas and oceans surrounding Russia. At 02:05 pm, 03:10 pm and 03:50 pm, summer stage of the Hermitage Garden will host lectures of geographers and travellers.

Children may participate in an unusual workshop. A 6-m long ship is to be installed near the Garden's summer stage. Guided by an artist, kids will paint the ship board in the Russian flag colours with paints and brushes available on the spot. Boys and girls will also like the maze inside the ship.

Russia Day's celebration in the Hermitage Garden will conclude with a music competition held on the central Park's stage. 06:00 pm till 09:00 pm, young artists will sing songs about Moscow. Their performances will be evaluated by the jury including pop stars: Vladimir Presnyakov, Anita Tsoi, Vladimir Devyatov, Marina Khlebnikova. Competition finalists will get special gifts.

Sokolniki Park will host an exhibition of paintings inspired by the holiday spirit, with paintings created on the spot, and visitors having an opportunity to watch the artists at work. Children will be offered to take part in handmade workshops and listen to a lecture by environmental experts about diversity and uniqueness of Russia's nature and why it is so important to preserve and protect it. Park's musical programme will offer performance of artists singing songs about Russia.

Enjoy jazz improvisation and watch a boxing match

Piano music lovers are welcome to visit Gorky Park, as on 12 June it will hold a pianist marathon. 02:00 pm till 07:00 pm, the musical relay is to be held in the openwork gazebo of the Park. Pianists will play renowned works by Russian classics, and their own pieces. Each performance is to last 15 minutes.

A jazz orchestra will create a festive atmosphere in Izmailovsky Park. Listen to musicians, watch dance and theatre performances from 01:00 pm till 07:00 pm on the main stage of the Park located on the Central Square near the Krugly (Round) Pond.

Children will enjoy their own entertainment program including insightful workshops where they will make flags with Russian symbols, draw Russian major landmarks, and learn about decoupage art. Boys and girls may also attend a ballet lesson hosted by the main stage at the Round Pond.

Zaryadye Park will delight jazz lovers with its musical programme. MoSKA-Jazz Orchestra will play jazz adaptations of famous songs about Russia in the Large Amphitheatre. Dancing lessons will also be held during the concert.

Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve will hold a festive gala concert. Bazhenovsky Hall of the Grand Palace will host performance of the chamber Antonio Orchestra conducted by Anton Paisov. A violinist from Tokyo, a graduate student of the Moscow Conservatory Hiroko Ninagawa will play solo. The orchestra will play music from famous movies and musicals, including ‘Memory’ from 'Cats' musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the waltz from 'Beware of the Car' movie by composer Andrei Petrov, the famous tango by Carlos Gardel from 'Scent of a Woman' and Libertango melody by Argentine musician Astor Piazzolla. This is a ticketed event with tickets available on the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve's website.

On 12 June, Vorontsovsky Park's main stage will host competitions of amateur boxers from Moscow and the Moscow region. In other Park's areas, you will hear songs about Russia. The game zone will offer visitors to play billiards and attend needlework workshop.

Attend free drawing classes at Fili Park, in Olympic Village Park and the 50-Letiya Oktyabrya Park. Krasnaya Presnya Park and Krasnogvardeiskiye Ponds' recreation area invites to make kites and cardboard aircraft models.

You may also come to celebrate Russia Day at VDNKh, which will host Samovarfest, an annual hospitality festival with a handmade fair, performances of Russian folk bands and popular artists, and traditional Russian samovar tea party.

Russia Day is celebrated every year on 12 June since 1992, when the Declaration of Independence of the RSFSR was adopted.
