Golden Autumn Festival to kick off with a hot air balloon and over 100 tonnes of pumpkins

The Golden Autumn annual food festival will take place from 28 September to 7 October. This will be the fourth time that farmers from all over Russia will bring vegetables, fruit, dairy products, cheese, meat delicacies and fish to Moscow. Also, Moscow’s restaurant owners will offer visitors a special festive menu.

To sample dishes and buy food, go to Revolyutsii Square, Manezhnaya and Tverskaya squares, Novy Arbat Street, Gorodetskaya Street, Profsoyuznaya Street, Orekhovy Boulevard and Dmitry Donskoi Boulevard, as well as Yunosti Square in Zelenograd. Also, Golden Autumn festival sites will open at the city’s marketplaces.

A cheese market will occupy part of Kuznetsky Most Street and a fish market, with a wide choice of seafood, will be located between Manezhnaya Square and Revolyutsii Square.

The festival sites will be decorated with exotic pumpkin and flower compositions, based on popular tales. For example, on Manezhnaya Square, there will be art objects inspired by the novel The Wizard of the Emerald City, including a four-metre balloon, the wizard’s castle and a pumpkin and flower field. A ship of magic, from the French fairy-tale of the same name, will be erected in the area between Manezhnaya Square and Revolyutsii Square. A magical fountain made of pumpkins will decorate Revolyutsii Square, while Gorodetskaya Street will accommodate a medieval market-themed installation.

Designers will use over 100 tonnes of pumpkins and about 10,000 plants to decorate festival venues. Some of the plants will be selected from those that have remained in place since the earlier Flower Jam Festival.

Other Golden Autumn events include culinary and creativity workshops, as well as concerts. Admission to all venues is free.

Last year, the festival attracted over six million people, and visitors bought 180 tonnes of meat, fish and cheese.
