Acrobats, gymnasts and jugglers: Moscow to host Circus Arts Festival

Moscow boulevards will offer brightest performances in mid-September. The festival is timed to the anniversary of the date when all the circuses of Russia became state-owned in 1919.

14 till 16 September, Moscow will host Circus Arts Festival timed to the anniversary of the date when all the circuses of Russia became state-owned in 1919, including one of the oldest ones, the circus on Tsvetnoi Boulevard (now Moscow Nikulin Circus on Tsvetnoi Boulevard).

During the two days, 14 and 15 September, Moscow boulevards will see the best circus performances of different genres, such as aerial gymnasts, acrobats, jugglers, clowns and mimes, magicians and illusionists.

The festival venues are to offer their guests master classes, meet-the-artist events, make-up master classes, as well as sweets and cotton candy to evoke our childhood circus-visiting memories.

On 16 September, Moscow Nikulin Circus on Tsvetnoi Boulevard will host an anniversary gala show featuring Soviet and Russian circus legends and show business stars to be broadcast by one of the federal TV channels.
This autumn, events dedicated to the anniversary of state circuses will take place across Russia: in St. Petersburg, Vladivostok, Sochi, Voronezh, Kislovodsk and many other cities.

100 years ago, on 26 August 1919, the Council of People's Commissars signed a decree 'On the Unification of Theatrical Business', according to which Russian circuses became state-owned. Since then, this art started its rapid development. In 1927, the Rumyantsev State School of Circus and Variety Arts opened in Moscow, with its graduates to become world-famous.
Festivals in Moscow run throughout the year and bring together millions of people.
