8th Moscow International Biennale of Contemporary Art events

The 8th Moscow International Biennale of Contemporary Art is to run from 28 October 2019 till 22 January 2020. Its major project, with Dmitry Chernyakov as its art curator, will be presented at the Tretyakov Gallery. Besides, it is the first time the Albertina (Vienna, Austria) becomes a partner of the exhibition.

An architect Alexander Brodsky (Russia), artists Pavel Otdelnov (Russia) and Hermann Nitsch (Austria) have been preparing their special works to be displayed at the exhibition.

The discussion programme will be part of the project '15/24', dedicated to inspiring young people aged 15-24 to attend exhibitions and museums. The third season of the educational programme is also being prepared. So, for the first time, a series of documentaries about the artists of the 20th century and works by Vladimir Weisberg, Anatoly Zverev, Ilya Kabakov, Erik Bulatov, Pavel Nikonov and Tair Salakhov will be presented,   with art curators, critics, art historians and collectors participating in the project. Filming takes place in museums and private holdings.

"It is very important indeed that the Moscow International Biennale 2019 will display a collection of contemporary art of the renowned Albertina Museum in Vienna, with works by most prominent contemporary artists, almost classics, in the same space that hosted revolutionary, as it is obvious now, exhibitions of contemporary art by great artists such as Rauschenberg, Tinguely, Gilbert & George and Rosenquist in the late 1980s — early 1990s. Both Albertina's contemporary art exhibition and the display of recent works by Russian and Western artists are surely a remarkable event. This highlights the ongoing traditions of modern art presence, both European, world and Russian one, in the space of the Tretyakov Gallery in Krymsky Val Street,"  said Zelfira Tregulova, State Tretyakov Gallery Director General.
