Moscow residents rent electric scooters to get to the metro station or to work.

Muscovites and visitors to the capital have made over 90,000 trips on electric scooters in the few months since rental points were opened in the city, on 18 May this year.

“Electric scooters are a new means of transport in Moscow, quick, environmentally-friendly and suitable for short rides around the city. More and more city residents have been renting the scooters to get from home to the metro station or work,” said Deputy Moscow Mayor and Head of the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Maxim Liksutov.

The number of operators of city electric scooter rental points is also growing. By now, there are three companies providing the service – Delisamokat, Youdrive.lite and Samocat Sharing.

Two of them have opened 49 electric scooter rental stations and one operator provides scooters at city bicycle car parks. The stations are located in the city centre and beyond the Third Ring Road – in Strogino, Krylatskoye, Kuntsevo, Ramenki, Prospekt Vernadskogo and Lomonosovsky Prospekt districts. By the end of 2018, nearly 1,000 stations will be available, with the number later rising as high as 15,000.

An electric scooter can reach speeds of up to 20 km per hour and can travel an average of 15-20 km on one charge. It requires neither special skills nor a driver’s license and no extra equipment is needed although it is advisable to wear a helmet.

To use the service, you need to register on an official website or on the operator’s mobile app. Via the app, you can book the scooter you would like to hire.
