Restaurants of St. Petersburg

Demidov

  

Location:
The Demidov Restaurant is situated in one of the most beautiful places of old St. Petersburg in the Fontanka River embankment in front of the St. Michael’s Castle. 

Interior:
Three halls of the restaurant boast the cosy and stylish interior. The antique porcelain working fireplace, the engravings with the views of old St. Petersburg make the classical interior of the White Hall unbelievably beautiful. Almost unique is the Russian Vaulted Hall with painted walls and the ceiling. Besides, there’s a separate Oval Cabinet with the antique clock. 

Capacity of the Demidov Restaurant is 75 seats in three halls. 

Cuisine:
Russian. The menu is based on the old Russian recipes in the best traditions of Russia of the time of Peter the Great. There’re dishes that were served up to the famous Russian Princes, the Demidovs, the Sheremetievs, the Menshikovs. Rib of pork stuffed with mushrooms, onion and cheese, fried in juniper spices, served with “Hunter” sauce; the fish pigtail from pikeperch and gentile salmon is cooked on vapour; “Schnitzel on-Viennese” – hot dish from veal, icecream with hot berries (blackberry, raspberry, cherry) and so on. 

Notes:
In the evenings the Demidov Restaurant provides with Russian and Gipsy romance show or classical music. As well there’s a theatrical fancy-dress show organized in the style of imperial palace festivals of 18 century with such characters as Peter the Great and Catherine II.

Austeria

 

Location:
The Austeria Restaurant is favourably located inside one of the bastions of the Peter and Paul Fortress. 

Interior:
This restaurant dates from the times of Peter the Great. The interior of the restaurant is designed in the Dutch style of the XVIII century and is full of antique objects, such as a unique musical box, wonderful canvases and charming handcrafted cast-iron chandeliers, which make the interior warm and cosy. 

Capacity of the Austeria Restaurant is 80 seats. 

Cuisine:
Authentic Old Russian. On the menu list there are favourite dishes of the royal families since the reign of Peter the Great: flesh of salmon and pike-perch, Old Russian chicken pie, "serf" broth which is an even older dish: it is made without potatoes but of beans, beef and peas, cooked in a pot in a Russian oven.

Na Zdorovie

  

Location:
The Na Zdorovie Restaurant is situated in Petrogradskaya storona within a 10 min drive to the magnificent Peter and Paul Fortress. 

Interior:
The authentic Russian Restaurant is true to its name down to the finest detail. It boasts the atmosphere of Soviet time though with mixture of some Old Russian decor. There’re beautiful scrappy napkins and chair covers, Russian oven, soda-water machine, some portraits of pioneers and rag-doils in colorful shawls and glass-beads, brass samovars and much more to surprise. 

The capacity of the restaurant is 90 seats in two halls. 

Cuisine:
Russian. Many dishes cooked using almost forgotten ancient recipes: fried in puff pastry goat cheese served with white honey and pear pickled in wine, fried duck fillet served with home-made noodles, salted mushrooms and turnip. Equally good are salmon pickled in fir-needle sauce and cold boiled pork pickled in kvass. The pride of the menu is sbiten.

New Island

  

Location:
The New Island is St.Petersburg's only floating luxury Restaurant-Ship. 

Interior:
On board of the New Island Restaurant it’s worth undertaking a fascinating tour along the Neva river enjoying lunch or dinner prepared by French cooks. Splendid mahogany interior decoration, full air conditioning. 

Capacity of the New Island Restaurant is 120 seats. 

Cuisine:
European, French and Russian. Many fresh fish specialties all prepared and cooked on board like Home made smoked beluga with fresh garden salad or Coulibiac of salmon and halibut served with white wine sauce and red caviar. Rhum baba with fresh berries and strawberries coulis is ideally for the sweet. 

Notes:
The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, celebrated his 51st birthday on this boat.

Podvorye

 

Location:
The Podvorye Restaurant is situated within 30 kilometers from St. Petersburg in Pavlovsk city, not far from the central entrance to the Pavlovsky Park. 

Interior:
The restaurant is housed in a typical Russian log house and its interior is filled with wooden panels and bear skins hanging on the walls of the restaurant. A relaxed, informal atmosphere is the basic component of the own style. The restaurant overlooks a spacious yard. 

Capacity of the Podvorye Restaurant is 250 seats. 

Cuisine:
Russian. The specialties include shashlik grilled in the spacious yard of the restaurant, boiled beef with spicy sour cream and garlic sauce, soup from a pumpkin with foie gras and berries Tuta in saucepan from rye bread and even more.

Restoran

 

Location:
The Restoran Restaurant is situated on the Neva River embankment. Proximity to such city attractions as the Moika River and Dvortsovaya Square is an advantage. 

Interior:
The interior of the restaurant is decorated in the minimalism style. The harmony reigns here: three vaulted halls, furniture, plates and dishes, a complicated system of lights – everything will fill you with tranquility and calmness. 

Capacity of the Restoran Restaurant is 350 seats. 

Cuisine:
European, Russian. The rich menu will surprise by salmon caviar with lemon, butter and herbs, beef stewed in a pot, Kiev chicken with white sauce and a variety of exquisite traditional Russian desserts.

Russian Empire

 

Location:
The Russian Empire Restaurant is housed in one of the oldest and most luxurious mansions of St. Petersburg, in the Stroganov Palace that stands in Nevsky Prospect, the main street of the Northern Capital. 

Interior:
The restaurant consists of five opulent halls, each of them has its own style and character. The attention to detail is breathtaking, the finest porcelain, gold cutlery and the engraved walnut furniture amaze. The cellars have been totally transformed. 

Cuisine:
Russian. Many dishes were created according to the tsar’s menu recipes: gold and white caviar, Cigal Lobster, imperial oysters and the Count’s beef Stroganoff. The wine cellar boasts one of the finest wine collections in Europe.

Russian Fishing

 
Location:
The Russian Fishing Restaurant is situated in a picturesque Krestovsky Island where the famous Fish Ponds date back to the late 18 century. 

Interior:
The original architecture of the wooden building, cozy interiors, soft lightning are the major components of the charm of the place. The open terrace due to the warming stoves has special success even in the rather cold season as it is connected to a pontoon. 

Capacity of the Russian Fishing Restaurant is 120 seats in three halls. 

Cuisine:
Fish. The specialty of the menu is chef’s special fish upon choice to taste with a variety of delicious sauces and garnishes. It’s worth tasting deep white mushroom bouillon served with pearl barley and sour cream or “Gentle” (cheese, grape, shrimps and “Iceberg” salad served with red wine sauce) from cold starters. 

Notes:
Every guest can catch any fish, for example, starlet, sturgeon, trout, carp or crayfish, that can be backed, fried or grilled upon choice.

Backstage

 

Location:
The Backstage Restaurant is situated only a few steps from the Mariinsky Opera House in Teatralnaya Square. 

Interior:
The restaurant entirely recreates the atmosphere of the famous Theatre, with all its touching details. It represents a small room decorated with stage props, the Egyptian statue from "Aida", the old piano from "Pikovaya Dama" ("Lady of Spades"), shields, swords, candelabrums and old mirrors - all these theatrical props blend perfectly with the exquisite table settings. 

Capacity of the Backstage Restaurant is 80 seats. 

Cuisine:
French. The menu reveals such tasty dishes like grape snails in garlic butter with mushrooms and spinach, lamb soup with tomatoes and lentil, the halibut rolled by cabbage with avocado and goat cheese or fried duck breast, served with pomegranate sauce and spring roll pastry and more.

Noble Nest

  

Location:
The Noble Nest Restaurant is located in the former Garden Pavilion of the splendid Yusupov Palace and is next to the famous Mariinsky theatre. 

Interior:
The restaurant disposes of two halls with snow-white columns, crystal chandeliers, portraits of Russian emperors and the family of Prince Yusupov. Splendid, genuine, luxury design of the place is revealed by deep armchairs, soft carpets, flowers and candles. 

Capacity of the Noble Nest Restaurant is 50 seats in two halls. 

Cuisine:
European and Russian. The recipes, written at the turn of the XX century, are reproduced in the menu a la carte: fried Bandol pigeon, served with fruit-mint kus-kus and sauce of sea-buckthorn berries; pelmeni of salmon and crab meat, garnished with leek and cedar nutlets; giant tiger prawn with mussel risotto and light shrimp cream. 

Notes:
The restaurant welcomed such guests as the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and the Chancellor of Germany Gerhard Schroeder, the President of France Jacques Chirac, Placido Domingo, Valentino and charming Catherine Deneuve, Andre Agassi and Stefanie Graf, the great musician Paul McCartney with his wife, the princess of Great Britain Beatrice and her mother, the duchess of York.

Old Customs House 

  

Location:
The restaurant is housed in an old custom warehouse dating back to the times of Peter the Great and is situated in the historical district of the city next to the Kunstkammer. 

Interior:
The Old Customs House Restaurant preserves the interior of an 18th century custom-house with its brickwork walls and arched ceilings. Corresponding furniture and details conveying the atmosphere of the 18th century were carefully selected. Portraits and genre paintings, copies of custom documents of the 18-19th centuries add to the atmosphere of the old custom. Wax figures of customs officials greet the guests. Here it is easy to find an exclusive souvenir shop, two bars serve beverages. 

Capacity of the Old Customs House Restaurant is 155 seats. 

Cuisine:
European. The luxurious dishes include: fillets of quail fried in walnut oil, served with deep fried foie gras and fresh vegetables confit in sauterne served with granite of red burgundy wine, or home-smoked salmon log filled with black caviar and prawns, served with spicy cream bavarois and soy sauce, or tournedos of veal with carrot and basil sauce and a mille feuille of chanterelles and season vegetables, etc. 

Notes:
Vladimir Putin, George Bush, Prince Andrew Windsor and other celebrities are among the most famous visitors of this restaurant.

Palkin 

  

Location:
The Palkin Restaurant is situated in the central street of St. Petersburg, in Nevsky Prospect. 

Within a walking distance from Corinthia Nevskij Palace Hotel and Radisson Royal Hotel.

Interior:
The Palkin Restaurant opened again in 2002 boasts a long history and formed traditions. To restore the famous "bohemian" atmosphere of the Palkin Restaurant, the luxurious interiors of the venue were updated. The Banquet Hall includes a fireplace and a big collection of playing cards. The Chess and Aperitifs Hall comprises marble inlaid tables, plasma panels and golden frames. 

Capacity of the Palkin Restaurant is 85 seats. 

Cuisine:
European. The menu features such delicacies as lobsters' necks with avocado and black caviar, sterlet with white wine, rabbit stewed in sour cream. 

Notes:
The Palkin Restaurant, founded by the merchant Anisim Palkin in 1785, was a favorite place of such outstanding persons as Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Alexander Block and many others. The Palkin Restaurant is nowadays one of the most prestigious places in St. Petersburg which includes a casino.

Russian Kitsch

  

Location:
The Russian Kitsch Restaurant is situated on Vasilievsky Island, on the oldest embankment of Saint Petersburg. 

Interior:
The decoration of the restaurant combines luxury with self-mockery: green marble, pompous gilded garlands of flowers, hand painted murals on the ceiling and epic canvases on the walls. The restaurant features 6 halls, 2 glass galleries and a dancing hall, each of which reflects some aspects of the Russian past. 

Capacity of the Russian Kitsch Restaurant is 100 seats. 

Cuisine:
European. The menu in the Russian Kitsch is full of non compatible dishes, for example common herring slightly pickled in pistachio and served with real gold leafs or common sausages made from foie gras. Also to surprise crispy honey goat cheese salad with home spices and orange dressing, pea soup with grilled bacon, or profitroles with hot chocolate sauce for the sweet, etc.
